When Was Your Last Sharpening

High quality Multilayer PCB manufacturing depends heavily on a multitude of key ingredients. One of those ingredients is proper maintenance. This is especially important in equipment such as your registration punches due to a high degree of precision built into the machines. Regular preventative maintenance is essential for maintaining reduced downtime and high thruput. Multiline offers a program to help our customers maximize their punch life, the “Punch and Die Block Sharpening and Rental Program”. This program is for the Punch and Die blocks for the Optiline PE Acculine machines. Barring any operator mistakes, such as misaligning the punch (failure to use the adjustment handle) or shearing the punch (misaligning the panel causing the punch to strike the die edge) one can expect to see production runs from 80,000 to 110,000 hits between sharpenings.

The best indicator is the actual pierced feature which should be inspected for a change in the feature size and the presence of burrs on either the top or bottom of the material. If the holes or slots are undersized or burrs are present, it is usually an indication that sharpening is necessary.

It is highly recommended that the Punch and Die blocks be sent back to the factory for proper sharpening. Spare sets of blocks can be purchased to minimize your downtime, always keeping one set on hand. With standard Multiline systems, rental sets of punch and die blocks are available for use when the original sets are being maintained. The normal lead-time is about a week and a half, although, a two day turn around is also available upon request. If you would like a quotation or just have a question regarding your Punch and Die Blocks, feel free to call Jim Orlando or Mary Endres at 1-631-249-8300
