What is Post Processing Registration?

ost processing simply means registration tooling is produced at the last step in each process. Multiline designed the system to increase yields and improve productivity for the entire multilayer registration and production process.

Advantages of Post Processing Registration for three areas:

Artwork - Post Image Artwork Registration Systems
Punching artwork after developing is a proven method of achieving the best possible layer to layer registration since it eliminates plotter pinning tolerance and minimizes any effect the dimensional instability of the film will have on artwork registration.

Innerlayers - Optiline PE
Innerlayers are aligned and punched with the lamination tooling pattern after imaging and etching, where most of the movement occurs, just prior to lamination. This provides the optimal layer to layer registration and because no pins are required, this greatly increases throughput and yields in the exposure area.

Innerlayers - Optiline PE / ATP
(Advanced Technology Punch)
The ATP 1000, 3000 and 5000 all offer thin material capability by incorporating a linear motor transport device with two vacuum grippers to hold the panel while moving into the punch. The ATP 1000 and ATP 3000 are both manually loaded and roughly located by the operator on a pre-positioning table at the front of the machine. The ATP 5000 is a completely automatic machine which requires no operator to run panel lots and can be incorporated with material loaders and stackers.

X-Ray Tooling and Inspection - XRT 1000
The XRT 1000 is an X-Ray Tooling and Inspection System designed for Post Lamination Drilling of multilayers. Layer to layer registration variation from panel to panel can occur during multilayer lamination. Post processing these panels in preparation for drilling demands the use of x-ray to locate internal copper images and then drill new tooling holes for pinning to the drill machine. The XRT x-rays every panel and drills new tooling holes based on the panels individual registration characteristics.

Outerlayers & Solder Mask Registration -
Automatic Phototool Registration Unit

is a microprocessor controlled vision system that automatically aligns phototool film to multilayer panels. This unit eliminates the operator to operator inconsistencies in outerlayer and soldermask registration while increasing throughput and improving yields.

Laminated Panels - Optiline PL
The multilayer panel is aligned by X-ray and drilled after lamination with a new dedicated tooling pattern for mounting on the drill machine. This accounts for panel movement that occurs during lamination and provides optimal image to drill registration.
